It has been nearly 4 weeks now since that terrible night. It has been a busy few weeks and we are feeling a lot more optimistic. Our house is now dry and the huge dehumidifiers and fans that have been continuously running for nearly three weeks will be removed tomorrow! Looking forward to the quiet! We have filled five skips with damaged items including the carpet and the gib. We just need to remove the kitchen so they can clean behind it and the laundry and music room need cleaning. We will then be ready for the builders to reinstate everything back. Our minor dwelling is also ready for the builders. Unfortunately we have also have to replace the floor as it is particle board and is just too soft. We are making this a priority so our tenant can move back as soon as possible with his cats.

We have yet to begin the process of itemising all the contents but that will be a job for the coming week!

We are not sure how long it will all take, but with the news full of delays for materials and builders hard to come by, I imagine it could be a while. But we are grateful we have somewhere warm and dry to stay for however long!

We are feeling a lot more optimistic although heavy rain does cause quite a bit of anxiety. We are also looking at ways to protect our property from future flooding. Once again we cannot thank you enough for your support and the peace of mind it has brought us. We look forward to catching up when we are able!! Much love Guy, Michelle and Ella xxx

So it has been two weeks since the flooding and I have to say we are moving forward, albeit rather slowly at times. Our insurance company has subcontracted out to another organisation who has then subcontracted again to someone else. So we have been getting quite a few mixed messages. Anyway we have now filled two 9 cubic metre skips and have just had another arrive. Builders arrive tomorrow to cut out the walls and then Chem Dry will give the whole house a steam clean, We are currently working out where to put our stuff as storage is not allowed at Level 4. And we have so much stuff!!! The insurance company wont cover the cost of storage as we are able to be in a part of the house. But we don't have room. So we might just have to pay that ourselves - which we can thanks to you guys. Its kind of confusing and we tend to be in a state of bemusement half the time. It looks like our kitchen will also be condemned but a lot of it is fine. So hopefully we can reuse some of it. So much wastage! Its very challenging and even stressful when you need to bin your new leather lounge suite because it was soaked with black water. Surely a good clean would suffice but no, health and safety is taken very seriously and black water is bad stuff! We're having to learn a lot of letting go and what will be will be other wise you can do your head in! So tomorrow, walls will be cut, flooring will be lifted, kitchen dismantled. Also all doors need to be removed and replaced - they swell.

We also discovered our fences are not covered by insurance so thank goodness again for you guys. Our two boundary fences on both sides are completely flattened.

We have yet to seriously embark on the contents at this stage. That's a whole other issue and one that invokes a great feeling of avoidance!!

Thank you so much everyone. We are more than a little overwhelmed and extremely grateful for your kind words and generosity. It was a scary and heartbreaking experience and the financial implications further added to our anxiety. But thanks to you all we can focus on the clean up ahead with a level of peace and reassurance.

The hard slog has begun, with a lot of sorting and photographing of the damaged items before they are consigned to the skip. It is full already and we have another arriving tomorrow We currently have a series of giant fans and dehumidifiers trying to dry the place out before the builders arrive to cut out the lower 60cm of gib from every wall in every room. We then need to wait until we reach Level 3 before we can continue. We know we have an army of people who would like to provide practical help and we are sure there will be lots to do for some time but in the mean time we once again say thank you and continue to pray for the sun to shine! Love, Guy, Michelle & Ella
