Giving back to a great Kiwi family who have been devastated by the recent floods in Kumeu.
Auckland
It's time to give back to this amazing family who have given so much to the community! Guy, Michelle & Ella have been badly affected by the floods in Kumeu on August 31st. As you can see from the photo, their property was completely swamped and badly damaged. Sadly their much loved pig Sugar did not survive. The water has subsided but now it's time for the massive clean up and repairs. It will be a long time before they can return to their home and the repairs will be arduous and costly. Insurance will cover some of the basics but won't come close to the total losses. Guy & Michelle are true givers and helpers - through their decades of teaching in New Zealand and around the world, their dedication to music including the establishment of Kumeu Live and of course their love and care for animals, they have made a huge difference in so many lives. We all have great memories of gatherings they've organised; let's help speed the repairs so we can create some more!
Good friends of over 30 years.
Repairs and remedial work.
Another update. 26 September 2021
It has been nearly 4 weeks now since that terrible night. It has been a busy few weeks and we are feeling a lot more optimistic. Our house is now dry and the huge dehumidifiers and fans that have been continuously running for nearly three weeks will be removed tomorrow! Looking forward to the quiet! We have filled five skips with damaged items including the carpet and the gib. We just need to remove the kitchen so they can clean behind it and the laundry and music room need cleaning. We will then be ready for the builders to reinstate everything back. Our minor dwelling is also ready for the builders. Unfortunately we have also have to replace the floor as it is particle board and is just too soft. We are making this a priority so our tenant can move back as soon as possible with his cats.
We have yet to begin the process of itemising all the contents but that will be a job for the coming week!
We are not sure how long it will all take, but with the news full of delays for materials and builders hard to come by, I imagine it could be a while. But we are grateful we have somewhere warm and dry to stay for however long!
We are feeling a lot more optimistic although heavy rain does cause quite a bit of anxiety. We are also looking at ways to protect our property from future flooding. Once again we cannot thank you enough for your support and the peace of mind it has brought us. We look forward to catching up when we are able!! Much love Guy, Michelle and Ella xxx
