Kyeburn Diggings Cemetery Trust

$925 of $20,000 goal
Given by 12 generous donors in around 3 months

Restoration of Mt Nobbler monument (avalanche tragedy in 1892) an other historical graves.

Otago

The Kyeburn Diggings Cemetery is a place of history that is the central focus of the gold mining days when two thousand plus people worked the harsh landscape. One of these hash events was an avalanche on Mt Nobbler that claimed the lives of five men from the community in 1892 while climbing in to rescue a young boy missing on the Kakanui Mountain Range, who also perished.

The monument is deteriorating and frost is destroying the base and along with the lettering this needs remedial work.

Also some of the headstones need stabilising and repaired, thus the Kyeburn Diggings Cemetery Trust have started fundraising to achieve this. Already one family has made a significant donation.

Use of funds

Restoration of the historic sites. Any extra funds will be put to use for stage two of the restoration and any shortfall will be dealt with by further fundraising and applications to community trusts etc.
