Kyle Heibner is a young and very talented Stockcar and Superstock driver who suffered a head injury while competing in February.
Nelson / Tasman
Kyle has been racing for many years in Speedway coming up through the ranks as a youth ministock driver and currently races Stockcars and Superstocks.
He has nearly completed an engineering apprenticeship in Nelson and races two classes of Speedway through out New Zealand. He has won many titles and has had a very successful racing career over the years and was just peaking at his best when he was injured on February 14th at a race meeting in Wanganui.
He was unconcious and had to be cut from his race car. He was rushed to Wanganui Hospital , as a status 1 patient. In the early hours of 15th February he was transferred to ICU in Wellington hospital by air.
Kyle suffered very serious head injuries and the outcome for him was very unsure – a parents worse nightmare seeing their son in such a fragile state .
Kyle spent several weeks in Wellington hospital, undergoing a major operation for remove part of his skull to let his brain swell and remove the pressure on his brain. He still has not had this part of his skull reattached and this could still be a while until this can be done. Kyle has only just started to learn to walk again, having to over come extreme pain due to nerve damage in his legs, he suffers memory issues, and many more challenges . He has faced many setbacks and challenges as has his family and friends who are on the journey with Kyle.
Kyle and his family have gone through many weeks of praying and hoping that he will recover and be able to resume a life that he had so much ahead to strive for. The cost of this injury has been both a financial challenge and certainly and emotional one for all. Kyle is now slowly recovering and rebuilding himself and continues to have intense rehibilitation.
Kyle is an outstanding young man who pushes himself every day to try and walk and strives to return to his old self as much as possible. He still has many obstacles to overcome but his huge determination, strength and positive attitude will certainly help him to become the young man he was before his injury.
All funds raised through Givealittle will help with the on going costs of Kyle's rehabilitation, loss of income and other costs that maybe incurred due to Kyle's injury.
I'm involved in fundraising for Kyle as this is an accident to close to home. With my partner, family and friends also competing in this sport, it is an unfortunate accident that could have happened to any one of us. Kyle has a long road ahead of him in his journey to recovery, I want to fundraise to help take some of the financial strain away that this situation imposes.
