Support Labour Behind The Label who campaigns for garment workers' rights worldwide
Bay of Plenty
For the next 6 weeks I am taking part in the 👚👕👖The Six Items Challenge👔👗👘 to raise money for the Labour Behind The Label campaign.
Fast Fashion is a new phenomenon where clothing trends change every 4 weeks instead of changing every season ⛅️🌨as it used to way back when. It is a drive to increase profit💰consumerism is growing 🛍 and clothing is now cheap and disposable 👿 Sell more, consume more, make more, waste more. This is having a disastrous effect on the people who make our clothes and the environment around us ☠️🌿🌏
Ministry for the Environment figures show 100 million kilos of textile waste is thrown into the country’s rubbish dumps yearly. This is New Zealand alone and we stand small against consumer driven countries like the USA 🇺🇸🏦
The garment industry turns over almost $3 Trillion a year 💵Yet garment workers, 80% of them women 🙎🏾👶🏽work for poverty pay, earning as little as $21 a month. Human rights abuses like poverty wages, long hours without breaks, unsafe working conditions and sexual, physical and verbal abuse are all common in the clothing industry 🙅🏽 It is an industry built on exploitation. No-one should live in poverty for the price of a cheap t-shirt👕Living wage is a basic human right, as is working without fear for your life.
The Six Items Challenge is designed to test our increasing reliance on fast fashion and raise vital funds which will enable Labour Behind the Label to keep fighting for the justice that garment workers deserve. A fashion fast opposed to fast fashion👚🚫So if your a friend or family please please consider supporting me by donating money 💛All money I raise is going to support Labour Behind The Label and ending the exploitation that is hidden behind all the mannequins and models🌏👘🌻👠🌷🌸
I'm involved because I believe the impact fast fashion is having on garment workers and the environment is shocking. The exploitation in the fashion industry is not recognised enough due to the lack of transparency within businesses.
Funds will support Labour Behind The Label and their work towards ending exploitation in the fashion industry.
