    We did it! Yes we can! We did it! Yes we can!

    So the Laptop 4 Lani appeal closed about 45 minutes ago with a total of $1,700 raised.

    A few days back, the goalposts shifted in completely the RIGHT direction and Leilani's laptop of choice went on sale again, in a really big way.

    The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (pictured), with a pen and a decent amount of memory at 256GB, and 8GB RAM, is now on special for $1,598.99 OH YEAH.

    That leaves about $100 to spare for Lani to get an external keyboard and maybe a few other useful trinkets, like a CD/DVD drive or a USB hub for this one-port machine... Who knows, but it will be money well spent in decorating this most essential of things....

    Thank you so much loving whanau; I think this means quite a lot because it's more than just getting someone a new tech tool, it's also everyone sending a bit of aroha to Lani and tautoko for her ongoing work. Like ON THE RECORD kinda thing. So thanks and double thanks!

  • Nearly there (and a cake made of cheese)

    It's the fi-nal countdown!

    The Laptop 4 Lani appeal will close at 9pm NZT this Thursday (March 16th), just under 3 days to go and we're nearly there. Thank you so much for your cash-money contribution -- and if you've also shared this on social media to reach other donors, or are about to do so RIGHT AFTER THESE MESSAGES, then thank you so much again!

    As I write, we have raised $1,545 which is a solid chunk of the $1,780 it will take to buy Lani's laptop, and three-quarters of the $2,000 goal (which allows for useful extras such as external keyboard or antivirus software).

    This Givealittle appeal is not an all-or-nothing situation though, so even if neither of those funding goals is reached, it's all good because Lani still gets the money already raised. Meaning a laptop for Lani is now in clear view, right there on the horizon -- see it? Hello, Laptop Island.

    Updates are better with pictures, so alongside is a photo of a birthday cake in the form of a cheese ball. This was made by Lani for a friend last weekend -- generous as ever.

  • Yay, the price holds!

    When I started this Givealittle campaign, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that Lani likes was on sale for $1,780. That sale ended this week and the price has gone up to $1,999, bummer!

    THE GOOD NEWS: Andrew at PB Tech in Wellington says "We’re always down to support a good cause," and has provided a written quote for that same laptop at the original sale price of $1,780.

    So we're still on track we're still on track we're still on track, woo-wooooo.

    Here's a pic of DJ Panda spinning at the Living Wage Stage on Sunday. 1988 music only! A dizzyingly good set. Now if only she had a laptop to make this kind of thing easier...
