I'm 16 years old and Year 12 student at Aotea College in Porirua.
I love sport, the outdoors, challenging myself and trying new things!
I have been lucky enough to get a berth on a 10-day Spirit of Adventure Youth Development Voyage in July 2017. It really is a trip of a life time and I am so very thankful to be given this unique opportunity!
Forty teenagers aged between 15-18 years, come from all over New Zealand to share the challenge of 10 days at sea. The focus of learning is on team-work, developing skills of communication, self-reliance, self-discipline, self-esteem, resilience, confidence and leadership. We will leave with new skills, a huge sense of achievement, loads of new friends and the confidence to take on any new challenges that come our way.
I am extremely excited for my voyage and can't wait to learn the valuable leadership skills that it will teach me, as well as meeting new people and trying out something I have definitely never done before! During the voyage, we will learn much about ourselves and our ability to become leaders. I cannot wait to set sail!
I am doing this as the Special Activity requirement for the Queens Guide Award and as part of my journey I must fundraise to pay for my fees! The cost of the voyage is $2,400 and along with fundraising on this page over the next couple of months I am doing cake sales, car washes, and selling chocolates. I am extremely grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity and I appreciate any donation that you can make!
As a thank you to all of my generous sponsors, on my return I will be taking part in a cleanup around the Pauatahanui Inlet and will take as many of my family and friends with me as I possibly can! It is a fantastic way to give back to the community and a thank you for helping raise funds for my voyage.
All funds raised will go towards the payment of the total cost of the Voyage and airfares.
