Laura's Sub-Antarctic Adventure!

I'm Laura!

I have been lucky to receive a Heritage Expeditions True Young Explorers Scholarship to travel to the Sub-Antarctic Islands this Christmas. This trip is an amazing opportunity to experience these stunning islands and their unique ecosystems. I will be exploring New Zealand's Subantarctic Auckland, Snares and Campbell Islands, then Fiordland, and encountering threatened native species on Stewart Island's Ulva Island on this 12-day expedition cruise of remote New Zealand.

I am studying a BSc in Environmental and Development Studies, minoring in Business Ethics and Sustainability Management, at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington. I am pursuing a career in sustainability, climate change and environmental protection. I love developing sustainable practices to encourage a more sustainable society. In my spare time, I am usually swimming in the sea, rock-climbing, tramping.

My passion is sustainability. In this expedition, I aim to share my experience with other young people to inspire them. I want to highlight the beauty of this rugged environment, and particularly draw attention to the threats it faces due to climate change.

I'll be documenting my journey through video diaries with Blue the Penguin and photography, and I aim to share these through social media.

I just need to raise some funds to help me get there! I'll be heading down south with my trusty little blue penguin "Blue" and we really hope you can join us in supporting our adventure!
