Developers seek $20k to challenge Council's new housing fees - evidence shows serious flaws that could add $100k per home.
Auckland
The numbers don't lie. We now want our investigations to be independently legally and financially verified.
Auckland Council's proposed Development Contributions will skyrocket to $119,000 in Tamaki and at least $98,000 in the inner north west areas. Our detailed analysis has uncovered serious flaws that appear to breach the Local Government Act and here are merely three examples:
DISCOVERY #1:
A basic roading project ballooned from $30M to $250M due to Council's cost escalation model and a timing change.
SMOKING GUN #2:
Council is charging developments for massive stormwater infrastructure that appears to specifically benefit defined areas. The Awakeri Wetlands project jumped from around $24,000 per house to $58,555 per house.
CRITICAL ERROR #3:
Council's growth projections show an impossible spike of 36,000 new homes in just two years (2051-2052) from a running average of 7,000 per year. These adjusted numbers may create a big hole in the budget of around $1B.
We've secured a top King's Counsel who agreed to a legal review. But we need your help.
$20,000 needed from this group (other funds via our Private Legal Account):
This affects everyone. Higher DCs mean:
✖ Fewer viable projects
✖ Less affordable housing
✖ Reduced development potential
✖ Higher costs for homebuyers
Your contribution today helps challenge these unfair charges. All funds will be held in trust.
This work will be the foundation for specific group actions and a judicial review if required.

Moving on to the ground work for our Legal Challenge 20 March 2025
Team, we have a superb Economic Report from Urban Economics. This gives us a firm foundation to show Council that the proposal is flawed.
We have negoitiated an exceptionally competitive price for the King's Counsel review. Larger groups have donated into our private bank account. We would like a bit more from the main group to finish it off.
We will be preparing a list of questions for the KC to answer:
(1) Historical questions to do with cost allocations
(2) Items to do with Veolia and Watercare
(3) Specific questions from this enquiry
For those who haven't donated, please give a little
