We provide free literacy training to rural teens and adults who need extra help.
Nationwide
The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT) is an organisation that provides free literacy lessons to teens and adults who live in rural areas and cannot access other literacy or learning centres. Along with our literacy lessons, we also provide School Holiday Catchup Literacy Camps. These help teens improve their literacy for school and prevent them from falling behind or failing in school.
Most people do not realise that even in today’s time of technology rapidly taking over pen and paper, writing is still the most broadly used skill in any workplace and school. Having good reading and writing skills is something valued in any society. It is taught from a young age and is always given careful attention in school. But some struggle with school and can get left behind as their grades start to go down. To prevent this from occurring and help those in need of extra help, RYALT has set the goal to provide free and quality literacy education to rural teens and adults. To give them good opportunities in the future and help them succeed in their literacy education. Along with the goal of helping people to feel confident in their reading and writing skills. We do most of our literacy training through one-on-one tutoring so that no student will feel bad or embarrassed about their literacy skills or the fact they need the extra help.
We are fundraising on Give-a-little because we do not receive any government funding. All of our costs are paid by grants and fundraising. So, we have set up this fundraising page to raise money to continue to meet the literacy learning needs and goals of the rural teens and adults we support. So, they can be confident in their reading and writing. The money goes towards a variety of support services provided by RYALT and our operating costs. These include basic operating expenses such as power, broadband and phone costs which are very important in delivering literacy coaching services, especially during covid. We also use skype plans to provide lessons to our students so that online and long-distance lessons are easier to access for rural students.
