Lymphoedema surgery to help the lymph flow
Canterbury
20 years ago, my world changed. I had developed breast cancer. Albiet my surgery and treatment have led me into remission. I had 25 lymph nodes removed and were clear. Because of this, I developed a condition called lymphoedema, which can be managed but is poorly funded for ongoing treatment. In Christchurch, I have had to pay for my own sleeves which are replaced every six months. Due to the cost, I have had to cancel getting lymphoedema massage therapy. This is a chance for me to get surgery which only one Dr up in Auckland can do. His name is Dr Simon Chong. He has had special training for this microsurgery and is the only Dr in New Zealand who is qualified to do it. I could fly to Australia where they do this surgery or America. But the cost for the surgery to be done here is the cheaper option. The cost is $30,000. Medical insurance does not cover the surgery. The Dr and I have tried. So, my next option is to apply to give a little crowdfunding so that I can get this surgery, and move forward
