If you’d like to soak up some carbon but don’t have room to plant your own trees, we can help. You sponsor the trees and we'll plant them!
Wellington
A lot of people are thinking about their carbon emissions and how to offset them by planting trees. You’ve probably seen the option when you book a flight.
Are you looking for a more personal option for your own emissions or maybe you want to buy some trees as a gift for someone else?
We live on a farm in Wairarapa and have just finished fencing off a 3 hectare gully so we can put it back into native bush.
It’s a pretty special gully to us - at the bottom is a pristine spring that provides drinking water for several families in the valley.
We’ve built 600 metres of new fencing to keep all stock out of the gully, and we’re going to plant at least 3000 native trees in the gully this coming Winter.
We’ve decided to offer 1000 of them for sponsorship.
If you’d like to soak up some carbon but don’t have the space to plant your own trees, we can help.
Every $10 you pledge buys a tree, sourced, planted and protected by us, as part of a new native bush block that will never be cut down.
Along with our endless gratitude, we’ll send you a photo of the planted block every six months so you can keep up with the progress of the trees you bought.
Donors will also get the first invitations to come along to one of our planting days this Winter.
We are experienced in farm forestry and planting projects, so your trees will get the best of care, including non-glyphosate weed control, and pest control once the trees are bigger.
If you’d like to buy a tree (or a few) here are some handy numbers:
- A return flight from Auckland to Christchurch would take 2 trees to offset
- A return flight from Auckland to Sydney would take 4 trees to offset
- A return flight from Auckland to London would take 35 trees to offset
- 10,000 kms driven in a medium sized car would take 9 trees to offset
This project is a bit of an experiment for us - if it works out, we’ll try some even larger, more ambitious native regeneration projects in the future - with your help.
So, are you with us?
Each $10 donation will fund the sourcing, planting, and protecting of a native tree.
We're doing it again 11 August 2022
Kia ora amazing supporters
This year we're trying something smaller, but more ambitious - a small wetland to help us improve biodiversity on the farm and improve water quality in the waterways downstream from us.
I appreciate a lot has happened for most of us in the last year - good and bad - but if you're in a position to help, I'd love it if you'd check out this year's project and consider supporting us.
If you know anyone else who might want to support us, please feel free to share this with them.
Thanks again and ngā mihi
John
