“ I want to do myself, my family and New Zealand proud” - George
Wellington
My brother has always been a natural at any sport (unlike me). In 2011 he decided he’d try cycling as he could no longer run due to foot injuries. I’ve seen him give his all in to this sport and over the last few years seen a lot of blood, sweat and tears! There’s no doubt he deserves this!!! Let’s get him there ❤️❤️❤️
My name is George Jackson and I am 18 years old. I started cycling when I was 11 years old and I am truly passionate about the sport. I realised that for me to pursue my dream of being a competitive cyclist and to represent New Zealand, I needed to move away from Wellington.
Team Skoda selected me to join their team at the end of 2016 and so in mid-2017 I left home and my family and moved to Cambridge.
I am private boarding with a family, I do some part-time work to pay my living expenses and I am very committed to training to become an elite road and track rider. I have a rigorous training programme that sees me cycling almost every day.
In November 2017 I won two Gold Medals and two Silver Medals in the U19 Oceania Championships. This year, after winning the Laykold Cup in February, I travelled to Invercargill for the Elite and U19s Track Nationals and I had great success. I brought home two Gold medals and four Bronze Medals.
I have now been selected to represent New Zealand at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Switzerland in August this year. Albeit I now ride for Waikato and belong to Te Awamatu Cycling Club, I have up until moving to Cambridge, always cycled for Wellington and I am the very first U19 Wellington rider to be selected for the Junior Track World Championships in the past 30 years.
I am passionate about what I do. I have a clear goal in mind to compete at the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics and the UCI World Championships and to ride for a pro team internationally. I am passionate about fulfilling my potential, about New Zealand and about being a role model and ambassador to younger riders coming through. I want to do myself, my family and New Zealand proud.
Let’s get the bro to Switzerland!
The use of funds is to get myself and my bike to Switzerland!
