Helping our incredible Lachlan get his own set of wheels - his first ever trike.
Inglewood, Taranaki
Lachlan is a bubbly, cheeky 6 year old. He brightens the day with his gorgeous smile and gives the most amazing hugs. Lachlan also has a diagnosis of WDR45. He is one of a kind, one of only ~250 people in the world, and one of only ~50 boys with his condition.
Lachlan is nonverbal but tells us exactly what he wants, and is visually blind but can hear the minutest of noises to find you. He loves going out in his wheelchair to watch trucks go past, going swimming is the best fun, he loves reading books, watching 'The Chase', and like every good brother loves annoying his younger sister.
Lachlan has significantly weak legs, he is unable to balance on his own, he can only walk about 50m with a walker and support. He cannot sit straight and rolls due to decreased trunk muscles.
Recently Lachlan got to have a turn on a Trike - the first time he has ever been on a bike. His smile was huge, hands waving with excitement. He could go fast for the first time and feel the wind on his face. The joy was amazing to see! For his parents though the best part was seeing him use his legs to peddle and sitting up correctly in the seat. They could see him building those muscles that he never uses.
Imagine if the constant physiotherapy Lachlan receives from riding this trike could impact his chance at one day standing alone. This is why we would love to give Lachlan this trike.
Lachlan is my incredible nephew.
We would love to help Lachlan purchase his first ever Trike - the Body Cycles Trike from Freedom Wheels in Australia. Any contribution towards the total cost of $4500 would be greatly welcomed.
A note from Lachlan’s parents 21 May 2022
“All of the amazing support Lachlan got from all of you caught the attention of TVNZ's Kea Kids News. Today Kea Kids joined Lachlan at school, meeting him, talking to his teachers and classmates, finding out about Lachlan and how much this trike will change his world.
A classmate and Superstar Marley was an amazing reporter doing a fab job, definitely not a easy task when someone doesn't answer your questions and keeps grabbing your microphone.
We are hopeful the trike will be here in the next week or two, it has been measured, made, and with fingers crossed hopefully on a ship to NZ this week.
Thank you all of you for all the support you all have given us, Family, Friends, Inglewood Primary School Staff and Students, Inglewood Community, Everyone 😘
Sarah and Ryan Evans”
