Helping Jimmy and Katie save their unborn child and the Black Rabbit Cafe
Otago
Some very good friends Jimmy and Katie wanted to build a dream in Bannockburn, Central Otago. They put their life savings into buying a wee local cafe and done a full renovation including putting in new car parking to take vehicles off the street and a new outdoor area so patrons can enjoy the Central Otago summer.
Unbeknown to them and overlooked by the previous owner and lawyer they were only consented for 12 people inside and 12 people outside (which any cafe owner knows that it is not sustainable).
On Wednesday 17th October the local council emailed them after receiving a complaint about them operating outside of their consented arrangement (which they were oblivious to). On Friday morning the 19th of October (The weekend of labour weekend- the biggest trading weekend of the year) the council visited them to check and enforce they had removed the excess seating which was approximately 70 in total.
Highly stunned and embarrassed they followed procedure. After having to turn away over 100 people over the weekend due to seating shortage they are considering closing the doors as it is no longer sustainable.
Katie and Jimmy are 30 weeks pregnant with their first born child and have been through unimaginable stress, sleepless nights etc.
These guys do not like taking anything from anyone nor like people going out of their way for them.
Very good friends of mine. Just want to do anything I can to help. #localshelpinglocals
This page is setup to try and help them out and ease a very difficult financial time for them and help ease the stress of having a first born due and the extra expense of submitting a new consent for what they thought they had.
The money raised will help these guys keep their business afloat and keep locals employed. Also buy new things for their unborn child.
