A gripping visual journey into the surreal moments before a seizure — Encounter captures chaos, memory, and emotion through light and sound.

We’re seeking funding to shoot a music video for “Encounter,” the opening track from Ben Ruegg’s upcoming debut album This Chaotic Sea (releasing August 15, 2025). This track is more than just a single — it’s the emotional and sonic entry point into a story of survival, loss, and renewal.
Written after a near-fatal seizure in 2020 and the passing of Ben’s father in 2023, “Encounter” captures the surreal sensations leading up to those life-changing events. Musically, it’s a 90s-tinged alternative rock anthem — cinematic, raw, and driven by swirling strings and an unforgettable riff.
We want to create a video that visually reflects the psychological and physical tension Ben experienced during his temporal lobe seizures — using dreamlike imagery, abstract space, and light-based effects. The video will blur the line between memory and hallucination, evoking that moment between control and chaos.
Directed by a small team of local creatives, the production will use a single-location shoot, creative lighting, and minimal set design to deliver a high-impact visual story on a modest budget.
With your support, we can bring the emotional power of “Encounter” to life onscreen — amplifying the song’s message and giving the album a compelling visual launch point.
The $2000 will fund the Encounter music video, split across location hire, equipment rental, and paying a small team of talented creatives to shoot and produce the video. Every dollar goes toward bringing this powerful visual story to life.
