Let’s Soften the Landing for Our Tamariki

We’ve already committed to fixing our playground—but now we need your help to finish it.

Ahipara Sandhoppers has been a safe, nurturing place for local tamariki for over 30 years. Today, that space is at risk.

Our outdoor play area has deteriorated and is no longer fit for purpose. The soft-fall surface is worn out, and the 30-year-old boundary fence needs urgent replacement.

To get things moving, we have already paid an $11,500 deposit toward new soft-fall surfacing. However, if we can’t raise the remaining funds in the next few months, we risk losing that deposit and delaying critical safety upgrades.

We need to raise at least $45,000 by December 2026 to:

Replace the soft-fall surface

Install a secure new perimeter fence

Restore a safe, welcoming outdoor space for our tamariki

Located at the foot of Te Oneroa-a-Tōhe (90 Mile Beach), our not-for-profit centre has supported generations of whānau in Ahipara. Many families who attend today have deep connections to Sandhoppers stretching back decades.

We’ve applied for funding but haven’t yet secured support for these upgrades. That’s why we’re turning to our community—past and present—and to anyone who believes in giving children a safe place to learn and grow.
