An update from Benjamin as at 24/11/18
24 November 2018Hi All, I want to say a big thank you to Leanne for the hard work of setting this up, and a big thank you to everyone that has been able to donate and support me through this time. I can’t put in words how much I appreciate you all. I want to let you all know that the money is helping me afford some of the unsubsidised medicines; it’s going towards keeping me entertained for when I have the energy to do stuff. The amount raised is a lot more than expected so there is plenty left over after these expenses (again big thank you!!!!), so it will be going towards some travelling so I can have a couple good months to look forward to, after several worse than average months.
As for an update on my health, I’ve been having chemo (RCHOP-14) every fortnight since September, which has given me some ups and downs. Generally it’s been going pretty smoothly. I had a PET scan a couple of weeks ago, where I got results back the following Monday. The results were very good; they were unable to see any cancer left in the scan, meaning the chemo is working!!! Even though the news is good I still have some battling left to do. This week I have been injecting myself daily to boost my stem cell production. On Monday 26/11, I will be in hospital to measure said stem cells, and if there are enough, they will be harvesting them on Tuesday, where I will be free to go home again Wednesday. I will have my final dose of RCHOP-14 chemo the following week. Go forwards to early January; I will begin the stem cell transplant. I don’t have exact details on this yet; however it’s something with a very heavy dose of chemo from 1-5 days and then injecting me with my stem cells so they can begin to grow from scratch. I prefer not to be an expert on what’s going to happen to me so if you want to know more about it try google it. But it seems like this will knock me down for at least a couple months.
As I write this, I have my best friend Ziggy flying all the way to Copenhagen to see me. I am super excited to see him again and to show him Copenhagen.
Thank you all again for this massive amount of support I have received! Much love to you all!
