Fundraising for academic material for a Ugandan primary school with limited and outdated resources.
Auckland
In June this year I will be returning to Hebron Junior School in Entebbe, Uganda. In 2016, I taught sports education at this school during my GAP year. It was a sensational experience and I have kept in good relations with the school since. I created a GiveaLittle page in 2016 and raised money to install a water system and purifier for the school. This provided the school with fresh water that was safe to drink. Previously they relied on a few jerry cans of untreated water to share amongst 400 pupils. This water system is still in use today and they have had no reports of waterborne diseases since.
My plan in 2023 is to fundraise some money to purchase the school textbooks for the children and teachers to assist with their curriculum. The school has very limited resources and currently the children do not have access to any textbooks themselves, relying on some outdated textbooks that are shared between the teachers. Speaking with the headmaster, he believes a number of children are missing out on their academic potential due to these resource limitations.
Hebron Junior School is located in the Wakiso district in Entebbe, Uganda. The school has 310 students from preschool up to year 7. The children at this school are outstanding with an eager attitude to learn and infectious positivity that was really humbling, considering the hardships many of them face. I am certain they will maximise the opportunity this project may provide them to aid with their learning.
I previously taught sports education in 2016 at Hebron Junior School and have maintained a good relationship with the school. My first project involved fundraising money to install a water system in the school which is still operational.
The funds from this project will all go towards standardised learner's and teacher's textbooks that follow the official Ugandan curriculum.

Peter, the headmaster.
Marion and Maria, students year 7 and year 5.
Thanks Roger, much appreciated. Great country, the kids at this school would often work in their holidays doing hard labour to help pay their fees. Will keep you updated on the project. Cheers Christian
