Life After Cancer: A Mother's Urgent Fight for Health

  • Getting there!

      8 November 2025

    Hi everyone,

I’m doing well, just pottering along and taking things slowly. My energy is up and down, so I’ve been pacing myself with small jobs at home. I even did half the lawns the other day and was wiped out for two days! Gardening helps me feel accomplished, even if it’s just one task a day 🌱.

Thanks to your generosity, I’ve raised enough to see a gynecological endocrinologist. I’ll start the referral soon, though the waitlist is five months. I haven’t raised enough for physiotherapy yet, but we’ll get there. Public options haven’t worked for me, so private care is necessary due to my complex needs.

I also want to clarify: when I say “single student allowance,” I mean Peter is the only income. I’m not working due to illnesses and PTSD, and our full entitlements from WINZ cover bills and disability needs for our children.

For physiotherapy, the hospital knows about my rectocele prolapse, and I’m working on losing weight gained while sick. They don’t yet know about the bladder/vaginal vault prolapse I suspect, as I’m overdue for my check-up and waiting for an appointment. This isn’t about choosing private care, though - it’s because I’ve been failed by the public system in the past for my prolapses and need proper support now.

None of this is due to a “bad birth”; it’s from my endometrial stromal sarcoma. ACC support may be possible in the future. I’m also pursuing a serious complaint about hospital failings.

Thank you for your support 💖. It means the world.

I want to thank everyone so much for your incredible kindness, support, and generosity. Because of you, I now have enough to cover my initial consultation — and I’m almost there to covering two follow-up appointments as well, which should be more than enough with the gynaecological endocrinologist! 🙏

I still need a bit more help to cover any treatments, blood tests, and medications that might not be funded through the public system, as well as costs for any imaging, travel to and from appointments, physio, and other treatments to help manage my prolapses. Every little bit truly makes a difference — whether it’s a small donation, sharing my page, or even just sending kind words. It all helps me get one step closer to healing and being able to live a more comfortable, normal life again. 💕

Your support has given me so much hope. I can finally see a light at the end of this tunnel, and I’m really hoping that soon I won’t feel so trapped by my health — that’s the goal. Even just easing my symptoms would mean the world.

The kindness I’ve received truly means everything to me. I’ve been so exhausted lately — yesterday I spent the whole day in bed recovering from pure exhaustion after doing family activities the day before — and I just don’t want to live like this anymore.

Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart. 💗

    With love,

    Shahmea
