Please Donate to Jeremy's cause ... he needs your help

  • Thank you

      4 February 2022

We would like to thank everyone very much that donated funds to help Jeremy. Some of the funds collected for Jeremy will be used on his behalf in NZ to help cover the ongoing cost shipping donated stoma bags and his healthcare and living expenses in his home country Vanuatu while he awaits his reversal operation. Money left over will be put in trust for Jeremy for his ongoing healthcare and rehabilitation.

    Kindest Regards

    Brett & Leah Fasher

  • 4th Operation

      7 December 2021

Today Jeremy is having his fourth operation since January this year. His first operation was to remove the faeces & give him a stoma. The operation today is to try and reduce the size of the stoma to stop the stoma from prolapsing.

  • Prolapse for the 3rd time

      2 December 2021

We got word today that Jeremy’s stoma was going to prolapse again … upon arriving home it did, please see the photo attached.

His doctor in Luganville will review Jeremy’s stoma next week. We have been told Jeremy’s condition Hirschsprung’s disease requires specialist care to rectify and do a reversal operation. We are continuing to support Sunila (Jeremy’s mother) as she does her best to care for her son while facing quite difficult medical challenges.

  • Pathology results

      26 November 2021

The pathology results have confirmed that Jeremy has hirshsprungs disease

Hirschsprung's disease is a birth defect in which nerves are missing from parts of the intestine. The most prominent symptom is constipation, like Jeremy some cases are diagnosed later into childhood, but usually before age 10. The child may experience fecal retention, constipation, or abdominal distention.

Yesterday Jeremy was again taken into theatre to repair and reduce the stoma size so that it will hopefully prevent the prolapse from happening a third time. All the while this situation has been very stressful for Jeremy who is 4 1/2 and his mother Sunila.

On returning to the Luganville hospital with the prolapse stoma the doctor pushed the intestines back through the stoma site but on returning home the same day the stoma prolapsed again because the stoma site was too large

  • Poor little Jeremy

As if Jeremy hasn’t had enough trauma, today he had to have an urgent operation in Luganville hospital as his stoma opening was too large and a portion of his intestine was coming through as we understand. We are still waiting to hear the results of the pathology tests.

  • Making Progress

      16 September 2021

Over the past weeks Jeremy has been in and out of hospital waiting for an operation to widen the stoma site so that he can excrete fasces easily without pain. Each time he was nil by mouth for the surgery. On one occasion he even made it into the theatre but the power went off so the surgery was cancelled. Another time the anaesthetist was sick and the surgery was cancelled again.

Thankfully last week Jeremy had his surgery. The Surgeon has made a formal request to the Ratua foundation for assistance for Jeremy & has taken biopsies to be sent to a pathology lab in Australia. These biopsies will confirm if Jeremy has Hirschsprung's Disease. If this is the confirmed clinical diagnosis he will require on-going surgical review and a definitive operation known as a Soave procedure or endorectal pull-through procedure.

The surgeon has requested support from the Ratua Foundation to assist in costs of sending the biopsies to Australia around $2,000 NZD ... the Ratua Foundation has agreed to pay these costs.

In the meantime the Ratua foundation is going to purchase stoma bags needed for Jeremy ... we have been quoted around $4,000.00 NZD if purchased in Vanautu per year. If Jeremy undergoes an operation 2022/2023 & no longer needs the stoma bags there are already 3 other children in need of these.

The costs of referral and communication with specialist teams overseas are unavailable and inaccessible to the patient (Jeremy), his family (Sunila, Jeremy's mother) and Luganville hospital. A formal request has been made to the Ratua Foundation to assist with installing a reliable internet system so that Doctors at the hospital can have the support they need while they take care of patients like Jeremy & many others.

The Ratua Foundation has agreed to go ahead and install a much needed & long over due internet service at the hospital ... This will cost $4,000.00 NZD with ongoing costs per month.

I am attaching a recent photo of Jeremy after his operation last week

  • Good news

      16 July 2021

Today the NZ consulate in Vanuatu put the Ratua Foundation in touch with two NZ doctors recently based in Santo. They were able to examine Jeremy late this afternoon. The doctors told Sunila, Jeremy's mother that he would benefit from a procedure to open up the stoma site given that it has become too small to excrete the solid faeces. Jeremy is scheduled for another appointment on Monday and will possibly have the procedure on the same day.
