Funding a home for an orphaned family in Uganda - I have personally met them and plan to go back and visit at the end of the year.
Bay of Plenty
Lillian is an orphan I sponsor through 'Hope in Villages' which is an organization run from Tauranga NZ. I learnt when I arrived in Uganda that although Lillian is sponsored and helped immensely - a sponsors weekly payments can only go so far. Lillian is still not living in conditions which western society consider to be ok, and I am not ok with that. I learnt that organizations sponsor children who's needs are extremely desperate - more so than I could have ever imagined, and I feel inspired but what they have already done for this family to take it a little further. One thing this family really needs is somewhere to live. Lillian and her 3 siblings pictured are currently homeless. They have very little food or water and get by day to day with the help of their grandma. Lillian is sponsored to go to school but at the moment this is all the family have - a girl with hopes for an education. What they need is a place to call home and access to running water. They need stability in their lives and when I found it takes just $15k to provide them with a lifetime of security I thought it would be rude not to try and help - so here I am giving it a go - and here you are hopefully helping me to achieve my vision and fulfill their lives.
I sponsor Lillian, it made me physically sick to see her situation. She sleeps on the dirt and has no access to running water. They live wherever they can at the time and when I arrived in Uganda her Father had just passéd away - his death bed was still set up next to where they sleep. They have now been chased out of the map hut and are again trying to find shelter and stability in their lives. I am back in NZ now and having seen what I did now feel responsible to do something to help. I am trying to raise funds for a very small plot of land and a house they can finally call home.
