I am on a mission to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease. I have devised a Lightbulb Trade Relay Project to do this. Please help!

Wellington

'WATT' started it all?

Hi I'm Sakira and I go to Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in Wellington. As part of my Year 9 course this year, Marsden has introduced a new subject called "Remarkable Time". In this subject we were asked to carry out a project which starts in Term 1 and finishes in Term 3. This could be anything from writing a book, creating a new maths formula or even inventing something.

I decided because my Grandma in Australia was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and, has declined rather quickly, I wanted to find a cure. Seeing I'm only 13 this obviously couldn't happen so then I decided to raise money for people who COULD find a cure. Ummm.... But who are these people? That was one of the first questions I needed to answer. Another question on my mind was how I was actually going to raise the money itself. I surfed the net for some ideas and Mum told me to look up the 'paperclip to house' journey. It turns out a guy called Kyle McDonald traded a paperclip to a house using a bartering system.

I thought this was a really cool idea- the ability to trade something so little into so much more. I wanted something more symbolic than a paperclip though and then it came to me... A lightbulb moment!... Why not use a lightbulb? So there it was… the birth of my "Lightbulb Trade Relay" project. I decided that I would start with a lightbulb and seek "Relay Runners" that could hopefully take it step by step on a wonderful journey. Who knows, a lightbulb may have wings that will take it flying towards the sky!

Please help my lightbulb soar by making a donation. No worries how small or large the amount... It will all help!

Lightbulb Trade Relay's involvement (page creator)

My passion for helping find a cure for Parkinson's is that my Grandma in Australia was recently diagnosed with PD (and has declined rapidly). This together with "Remarkable Time" Project/Subject at school has enabled me to undertake this adventure.

Use of funds

100% of all funds raised through my project and all donations received through this site will be used for Parkinson's Research.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
