Sponsor a rubbish clean up to help buy a solar panel for Western Springs College!

Western Springs, Auckland

Hi there,

Esther and Zylah here! We are year 12 students at Western Springs College and we want to help do our bit to clean up the areas surrounding our school while also raising money to support the school's solar panel fundraiser. We have lived here all our lives and have a connection to the area so we want to make sure future generations can enjoy it as we do. We pledge to each spend 5 hours picking up rubbish (we will be using biodegradable bags of course!) over the next few weeks and hope to also create long term impact by buying two solar panels. Our cleanup will mean that in the short term, residents will be happy to see the positive change in the environment, and will hopefully also encourage them to do their bit because every little contribution makes a difference. In the long term, the use of solar power will help create a greener future for Auckland. If you would like to help us, we would be super grateful if you would sponsor our rubbish clean up, with the proceeds being donated to buy a solar panel for the school. Our goal is $980, as this is how much it would cost for two solar panels but any extra will contribute to a third! You can check out the school's fundraiser here: https://westernsprings.school.nz/solar/

Thanks so much!

Cleanup complete!  8 June 2022

Hi everyone

Last Sunday we finished our 10 hours of rubbish collection. We covered Meola Rd, Coyle Park, Pt Chev Beach, Fowlds Park, Scanlan St, Crummer Rd, Nixon St and a section of Great North Rd. Common items were cigarettes, lolly wrappers, cable ties, face masks, tissues, fast food packaging and alcohol glasses and cans. By the end we had collected around 12 rubbish bags worth of waste and while we felt good about our efforts, the amount of rubbish around shows the big issue we have and the way that we need everyone on board in order to fix it. We are so grateful to all of you who have supported us, it feels great to help two causes at once and we couldn't have done it without your help. We've almost raised enough for 3 solar panels which is amazing considering we started out hoping for 1, so if you have any friends or family to share the fundraiser with to help us get that 3rd panel we would really appreciate it! Again, thank you all so much for your support and generosity!

Esther and Zylah :)
