Little Magoo, the Fluffy Shih Tzu, needs your help.

  • 5 weeks in - Lookin' good

      8 August 2023

Hi All. We're about 5 weeks in and wanted to share a video of the patient. We're so happy (relieved!) at JaXon Magoo's progress. only a month ago, we were in tears with the vet, signing a DNR for our little man. Now look at him!

He's walking mostly by himself - in fact we have to contain him, while his leg continues to heal. His tummy is re-growing fur, although we wouldn't be surprised if it never completely recovers. His tail Is always now going to be dislocated - we'll keep an eye on it - would rather not amputate, and He's lost an inch or so from the tip.

His appetite has not completely returned, but we're happy with the amount of food he's getting (both in and out).

hopefully another 3 or 4 weeks in the cone of shame - an X-ray booked in for that time to check on progress. (and a much overdue groom!)

To all who have sent messages and cuddles, we cannot thankyou enough. He's an old boy, (15) but he's still got a lot of duck chasing days in front of him.

  • walking, talking & eating

      31 July 2023

Over the last week (3 since his accident- now 4) JaXon's appetite has returned (although he insists Lawrence hand feeds him his crackers, or spoon feeds him dog roll). He is also trying to walk, and is able to scoot around the house. We need to temper this with his need to recover - that leg is still healing. He's got an xray booked for wednesday to see progress, but we suspect the pelvis needs more time, and it is of course near impossible to isolate this.

Can't wait to get the cone of shame off him - it must surely be hampering his willingness to get on with life, but we just can't have him picking at his bandage, or licking his tummy wound.

All in all, super pleased with his progress - you lovely people have helped us in a way we couldn't have imagined. Prayers for you are assured. Lot's of love, Kelly & Lawrence

  • A week and a bit on

Good news. Old Mr Magoo is home and recovering - Big thing for us now is managing his ablutions, and we have our work cut out. Seems to go after we've taken outside for a 'walk'. (Walk involves Lawrence holding his bum up and offering encouragement 'til he eventually just sits down - plonk)

We've had a splint change on the leg, and we're still feeding him liquids and meds through the feeding tube. He eats, but not the way we're used to. He's become quite fussy - we're hopng it's meds, might be a bit of depression.

His Tummy is starting to heal over, and he is able to support his own weight on the two back legs, but as to be expected, isn't trying to walk. If he needs to move, he army crawls on the floor with his two back legs dragging behind. A bit of food and time, we're sure he'll start using them.

Thanks again for all your help to date - It has been amazing - including the friends who have supported us elsewhere.

    Kelly.

Well, the old fluffball is home, and we are feeling so much more positive for his future.

He's learning to move and we have put him in a cot so we can dress his wounds.

He eats sporadically - usually Cooked Hooman chicken. He is doing a great job of keeping his fluids up. We take him outside 2 or 3 times a day to water the plants, but he waits 'til we bring him back in and get him comfy in his cot before he goes #1's! (EVERY TIME!)

We're sure we can mitigate this, but the poor muppet is living with constant 'nappy rash' on his scraped tummy :(

We'll talk to the vets tomorrow and see if they have a solution.

Cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. Many of you have have sent gifts direct as well - You are all super humans, and a blessing to the little guy.

Lots of Love, Kelly< Lawrence, boys and of course, Mr Magoo!
