Our JaXon Magoo needs surgery.
Kaukapakapa, Auckland
Our beloved Shih Tzu Russell cross has been run over and is currently undergoing his 6th day of hospitalisation and surgery.
The Surgery to mend his back leg took 7 hours, and appears to have been a success. He now has plates in his Fibula and Tibia as well as his foot.
His Left foot was crushed, and his lovely tail has been separated from his spine. The car pushed him along the ground on his belly, and his stomach & boy-bits are traumatised :(
Currently we are able to visit him once a day and it breaks our hearts to see him lying there with Fentanyl, Ketamine, lidocaine drips, a catheter, fluids and a feeding tube.
He sees we are there, and his little face lights up. We do not know when we'll be able to bring him home -the nurses are now talking about some form of procedure on his stomach to remove dead flesh. (sorry!)
We are prepared for the long weeks ahead of us, caring for his every need, including helping him relearn to walk, feeding him and showing him our love.
JaXon Magoo means so much to our family, and is an absolute joy to all who meet him. I've cried so much, just writing this.
JaXon Magoo is our much loved and adored family fur baby.
Mr Magoo has racked up $18k in bills over the last 6 days, and that figure is climbing @ $1800 per day. Any generous gifts will be used to directly pay for his expenses and care through Animal Referral Centre in Albany, Auckland.
5 weeks in - Lookin' good 8 August 2023
Hi All. We're about 5 weeks in and wanted to share a video of the patient. We're so happy (relieved!) at JaXon Magoo's progress. only a month ago, we were in tears with the vet, signing a DNR for our little man. Now look at him!
He's walking mostly by himself - in fact we have to contain him, while his leg continues to heal. His tummy is re-growing fur, although we wouldn't be surprised if it never completely recovers. His tail Is always now going to be dislocated - we'll keep an eye on it - would rather not amputate, and He's lost an inch or so from the tip.
His appetite has not completely returned, but we're happy with the amount of food he's getting (both in and out).
hopefully another 3 or 4 weeks in the cone of shame - an X-ray booked in for that time to check on progress. (and a much overdue groom!)
To all who have sent messages and cuddles, we cannot thankyou enough. He's an old boy, (15) but he's still got a lot of duck chasing days in front of him.
Thank You so much for your generous gift- Mr Magoo is also most thankful - Your identity is however a mystery! You are a blessing.
Thank yOu Teri. When he's better, you MUST come say hullo.
Dale, you're a blimmin' ripper. This will help us get him back out to the bush. MwaH!
