Help me fight this thing - Medical Trial

$3,645 of $6,000 goal
Given by 55 generous donors in 11 weeks

I have been accepted to take part in a medical study for treatment resistant depression and PTSD - this page is to help try & get me there!

Hamilton, Waikato

If you know me, you are probably familiar with my story. Sadly it is a story that is very similar to countless others.

I battle with treatment resistant depression + PTSD which led to multiple suicide attempts in 2021. I was in hospital in critical condition fighting for the life that I had just tried to end. I still very much struggle with those thoughts most days. You can read more about my journey here: https://bit.ly/Livingincolour

Due to my rapidly deteriorating mental health, I had to end my successful 7 year real estate career (which my pride made very difficult to do). I’ve been unemployed for over 12 months now to focus solely on my mental health with the guidance of professionals. It has been necessary, but I have gone from having healthy savings, to a mere few hundred dollars which is why I have to put my pride aside, and ask for help.

Promising research is being done around alternate treatments for those with treatment resistant depression and PTSD. The one that I am pursuing is ketamine (link about this below)

My preference is to take part in a study, not because it is free, but because the more (hopefully successful) research that is done, the higher the chance these treatments will be accessible in the future to those who need it. Currently you can only access these options if you have $$$, or are selected to take part in a study & you have to take 4-6 weeks off work.. not a viable option for many people.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Use of funds

Accommodation + flights for myself & a support person or private treatment in NZ (if I miss out on the trials) which is 5-6k + accommodation for 4-6 weeks. If I do not reach my target, it will be put in my own savings until I can get enough money together for the treatment

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!  30 September 2022

I feel like I can’t say thank you enough. Givealittle processed the first payment to me and I have now booked my return car ferry, paid the deposits on most of the accomodation and booked in for my ecg! I am so grateful for everyone’s support. Not only does the money take a huge stress off because I couldn’t have afforded to go without all of your help, but it has given me the warm fuzzies seeing how many people want to see me get better. I had a zoom meeting with the professor and I am feeling super optimistic and really excited to have the opportunity to try and get on top of this illness which has tried so hard to break me. You are all angels in my eyes. Thank you so much x

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
