Local Muriwai firefighter Craig died a Hero. Support his wife and young boys

  • A year today since Cyclone Gabrielle hit the Muriwai community

Today we think of Craig, who passed on the 16th of Feb 2023 as a result of helping the Muriwai community he loved. We think of his colleague Dave who lost his life alongside him, and the other 9 lives lost in New Zealand from the horrific night.

Sadly, Lucy (Craig’s wife) had confirmation in December – that they would never be able to return to their family home, which they had to evacuate that night. The funding raised in those first few months has eased pressure over the toughest year of their lives, and in the future will help to contribute to a new home. For now, they continue to rent locally.

Lucy, Marianne (Craig’s mother), and their families would like to express their gratitude for your support in raising funds last year. From all that knew Craig, to many that didn’t, the ten-year-old Bruno who went busking – Together you raised $259, 287.60 - from over 3,300 donations, and wrote 1,000's of heartfelt messages (we are still getting through). Ngā mihi nui - Thank you.

    Aroha nui,

Haidee Renata on behalf of our dear friends, Lucy & Craig, their boys, and Marianne Stevens.

  • As a month approaches - the family thank you

      13 March 2023

Kia ora and thank you to the 3,279 donations - together you have raised almost $250k! The funds raised (to date) will be released next week and will support Lucy, Marianne and the boys manage financial pressures with the loss of Craig and still unable to return to their beautiful home. The uncertainly is real, potentially taking years to be able to return.

    Ngā mhi nui,

"It does go by in the blink of an eye, just take each day as it comes, enjoy life, enjoy those small moments, life is short" Craig Stevens

  • A CELEBRATORY SEND-OFF IN HONOUR OF CRAIG STEVENS

      25 February 2023

    Wednesday 1st March 2023, 2:00pm

Parihoa Farm, 223 Constable Road, Muriwai

We would be honoured if you would join us in celebrating Craig Stevens incredible life. Anyone who had a connection with Craig and Lucy Stevens is warmly welcome to join us at Parihoa Farm to give him the epic send-off he deserves.

For those unable to join us in person, the ceremony will be live-streamed on https://www.dreamproductions.co.nz/craigs

Our Craig was a pretty sharp dresser. As this is as much a celebration of Craig’s life as it is a send off, please feel free to dress in bright colours; party shirts are more than welcome.

There will be limited seating and the site is exposed to the elements, so come prepared with a picnic blanket, hat/umbrella (weather dependent), and other appropriate clothing.

The road to Parihoa Farm is a narrow, one-way gravel road. We strongly encourage guests to carpool as car parking is extremely limited. We recommend you leave plenty of time to park and walk to the venue and be there for a 2pm start.

We are keen to capture as many photos and stories as we can to pass on to Craig’s boys, so please email any memories, stories, photos and videos to craigstevens.memories@gmail.com

Media attendance is by invitation only. Please contact Lisa on email hello@joepublic.co.nz if you have a media enquiry.

  • Ngā mihi nui for your koha - we feel your aroha

      19 February 2023

We have almost raised 200k for Craig's whānau from 2745 donations. The whānau are overwhelmed at your generosity. Thank you.

Craig had so many friends, and his love for his community was strong. Lucy and I wanted to share another givealittle page for their good friends Hannah and Eddie, who lost their home in the same community.

However please only give as you are able.
