Logan Docherty heading to Under 23 World Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy

My name is Logan Docherty, I am 20 years old and going through the final stages of my electrical apprenticeship through Plunket Electrical in Oamaru.

After a successful domestic season and national under-23 selection trials, I have been selected into the New Zealand men's under 23 lightweight double sculls to contest at the World Rowing Under-23 World championships in Varese Italy on the 27-31 July 2022.

After not being able to travel overseas with the New Zealand under-21 team last year due to Covid-19 restrictions; this year brings an amazing opportunity to travel and compete on the international stage against the best in the world. I will be relocating to Cambridge (Waikato) for 14 weeks as I train full time out of the Rowing NZ high performance centre, training alongside people you look up to through the system-all sharing the same common goal. Gold.

This opportunity does come at a cost of $7,000 for the trip to the World under-23 championships.. This cost does not include any daily living costs (eg: Food and rent)for the 14 weeks of preparation prior to departing for Italy.
