  • A final Farewell

    Bula Vinaka

I have tried to do two updates and both have failed so I hope this one reaches all our amazing people.

Last update My sister and I were bringing Sam home from Fiji. On friday the 8th dec We arrived back in New Zealand with Sam Safely aboard the plane.

He was taken to his Daughter's family home where he laid surround in love, laughter, funny memories and beautiful music.

We had Sam with us for 3 days until his final resting place at Manukau Gardens on Wednesday the 13th December 2023.

Sam's family, rugby teams, friends and work collegues all came to send him off with honor. A Haka for the Maori Sam, the prayers for the religious Sam, and a few beers for the party Sam.

Through this journey we have learnt Sam had touched so many hearts and so many lives.

he had a past as we all do but at the end of the day Sam would give the shirt off his back if he saw someone else who needed it more.. Sam lived each day like it was the last, gave his money to feed the homeless, he would be there for his friends and the people he loved at the drop of a hat with no questions.

With this we say a final farewell and thank you to all who have been on this journey with us the ending was one we didn't hope or want but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love and prayers you all sent us..

    Bula Vinaka Vakalevu

Avane, Chace, Rachel, Manaini, Myself, the Tora, Nasovas and Olsen whanau.

    Bula Vinaka

Our Families have worked tiressely and triumphantly to make this journey back to New Zealand possible. Back to his Baby girl (Avane) and family and many many friends.

Samuela will be making his final journey back to New Zealand with us on Friday the 8th of Dec 2023.

Samuela was loving and generous he would give everything he had to anyone he thought needed it more then him. Your donations, prayers and messages have returned all his good deeds at a time we all really needed.

This is a bitter sweet journey for us as we have all gained new family and sweet memories of the loving and caring people we have meet. From the staff at the Lautoka hospital to the taxi drivers and hotel staff at Tanoa. People have gone above and beyond for us and we are forever greatful.

Day 28 comes with great heartache and sadness it is with a heavy heart that I write this, 11:58am we lost our beloved Samuela Nasova Tora.

This big man fought a huge fight all the way till the end, with my sister at his side and prayers and love from near and far.

We are humbled and grateful to all who have been with us on this journey.

We are making arrangements to bring Sam back to New Zealand to be laid to rest where his daughter and family can visit him.

The money raised will help us greatly with funeral costs and getting him home

Again thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, support and love.

    Vinaka vakalevu

  • Day 19 Plato

    Bula whanau and friends

Sorry for the late update, Sam has hit a Plato in his recovery, with all the antibiotics and medications at the end of there course.

Sam is still relying on the cpap machine to breath, and has been having some real down days but it is to be expected after the fight he has had.

We are needing to source a cpap machine as this is something he will need and they only supply them in icu, also a number of hospital staff (the amazing eagle cleaner crew) and my sister donated blood as Sam needed a blood infusion.

Things abroad are different hospital wise.. blood donations are a need for any patients and so are some of the medications.

I have returned to New Zealand to deal with issues here which makes me uncomfortable leaving my sister there on her own, how ever I am very greatful to Sam's cousin (Manaini you are my angel) and neices whom are looking after her.

Accommodation is a must at this stage.

So.. with that said we ask if you have family or friends in Lautoka and they have a home they can rent out please let me know asap.. 2months rent if not longer.

Thank you again for all your Prayers, donations and kind words please keep Sam in your thoughts as he is not out of the woods yet.

    X team Nasova Tora, Gillard

  • With the good days there's the not so good days

Today is day 14 Sam is awake and conscious how ever he still battles infections on top of that he has what we call a glitch in the matrix.

He is still learning to breath again and in doing so means he struggles with co2 levels.

At the moment we are able to keep this stable with the dath Vader machine (cpap) which helps him get his levels back up..

He is doing amazing and we are so proud of him, yesterday he was able to eat all his favourite fruits and did so with a big smile on his face.

We really appreciate all the support near and far the prayers and lobe we have received has not only given us faith but helped to keep us going in this uncertain time. Thank you again

    Bula Vinaka from Fiji

Today Is day 12 for Samuela we are yet to see what today brings.

Each day has been of the unknowing however Sam has been having small but promising wins each day.

yesterday the 18th November was the first time he had been unintubated and semi awake, his obbs are still not in the clear, infections are holding him back he is in and out of sedation but we are full of hope.

Some of Samuelas family came to visit him yesterday such amazing beautiful people who travelled from there village to wish him well. I personally have never met a more loving, fun and uplifting group of people was really a pleasure to meet them all.

We were quoted $131,000.00 to get Sam back to nz with a Medical flight. Hence the reason we have decided my sister will stay here in Fiji until he is well enough to fly. The cost has taken us by surprise hence the reason we have started this page. We thank each and every one of you whole heartedly.

The generosity and kindness from you all has been humbling and we cannot express how greatful we are.

Will update again in a couple days
