Indonesia earthquakes:
1. PALU QUAKE and TSUNAMI
As of 2 October 2018, almost 1,000 people have been confirmed dead after a tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit an Indonesian city. And the death toll continued to rise as more bodies were found.
On Friday, 28 September 2018, a shallow earthquake struck in the neck of the Minahassa Peninsula, Indonesia, with its epicenter located on the mountainous Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi.
Following the quake, a 3m-high tsunami later struck Palu, sweeping shore-lying houses and buildings on its way, killing almost 1,000 people and injuring 540.
2. LOMBOK QUAKE
The Indonesian island of Lombok has been shaken by two strong earthquakes, on July and August 2018, after weeks of tremors that have killed almost 500 people.
The first 6.4 magnitude quake was on July 29, before a larger 6.9 magnitude and at least five more significant aftershocks on August 5 saw hundreds more die, 7,000 people were injured, more than 415,000 displaced, with many sleeping under tents or tarpaulins near their ruined homes or in evacuation shelters homeless. The quakes also damaged tens of thousands of homes, public facilities, businesses across Lombok.
