Lucy's Big Red Run

The Big Red Run is the ultimate running challenge in Australia’s majestic Simpson Desert, in the outback of Queensland. I have taken on the biggest challenge the event has to offer - a 250km, 6 day stage race - the equivalent of just under 6 marathons in 5 days. The ultimate ultra-marathon!

Day 1: Birdsville Marathon (42km)

Day 2: Adria Downs Marathon (42km)

Day 3: Arpilindika Marathon (42km)

Day 4: Sprigg Sprint (31km)

Day 5: Mohan Marathon AND Roseberth Marathon (85km)

Day 6: Birdsville or Bust (8km)

While many of you know of my previous running exploits, I think it’s fair to say that this is by far going to be my biggest, most challenging, and craziest event thus far (probably ever!)… 250km across a desert… what am I doing?!?!

I have therefore decided to use this opportunity to raise money and am asking for your help in supporting two deserving charities: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Kidney Kids NZ. I’ve paid all the entry fees myself and will be covering all the costs of participating in this crazy adventure, so all donations will go directly to these charities.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation funds the best and most promising Type 1 Diabetes medical research to treat, cure, and prevent this insidious disease. The Big Red Run event was created to help raise funds for this foundation and so in support of this I will be donating the first $1000 to their charity.

Kidney Kids NZ helps children with kidney disease live the best lives possible, to offer their families the best support and information available and to educate New Zealanders on the early warning signs of kidney and urinary tract disease. Many of the children that I work with directly benefit from the support of Kidney Kids, therefore any money over and above the first $1000 will be donated to this charity.
