Raising funds for luka

Canterbury

In October 2019 Luka partially tore his ccl in his right leg and it was suggested we do conservative management. This involved Luka being locked in a crate for six weeks , being on pain meds and joint supplements. After six weeks it was noted he seemed to be doing ok and that surgery wouldn’t be needed until it fully blows . Sadly four days ago Luka leapt off the couch and yelped and began toe touching and holding his left leg up . We knew again this time he had tore his left rear leg the opposite . This is very common after an existing one .

The vet again suggested conservative management so sadly my bubbly boy is now locked away again . This time on joint supplements, pain meds and joint food . The cost of this management is around $470 a month and mere impossible for me to meet . This particular vet will not give TPLO surgery until Luka literally fully blows his legs which is bound to occur .

Over the last days I have sought other opinions and found that in large dogs over 30lb there is only a 16% chance he will stabilise . Though the six weeks last time has still left my boy with a limp which is more noticeable than the current side .

In six weeks the vet is happy to do another x ray . However I have found a vet south With the help of a friend , that says these partial tears should be fixed in large dogs and are a ticking time bomb .They will look at x rays and decide which side is the worst and do the worst side first . Then the other in a few mths . They have quoted $3000-$3200 roughly per leg . I feel because he is only two it’s better to give him a good start at life than a lifetime of pain and expensive conservative management that after 12 mths would have paid for the entire surgery and be a permanent fix .

Update

Luka will now be having Lateral surgery locally one leg at a time it is slower recovery but what they feel is best for him

Thank you all for the donations and support and love our page was extended last year due to complications with the first surgery spending well over $7800 on one leg and that extension now is running out next week . Hopefully we will sail through the second surgery this year with no complications . Luka will remain on joint food and supplements and possibly hydro for the rest of his life at a cost over $600 a month . So from time to time we may need to sell some merchandise because these costs far exceed my income . Thank you for giving luka a new life
