Thank you all for the donations and support and love our page was extended last year due to complications with the first surgery spending well over $7800 on one leg and that extension now is running out next week . Hopefully we will sail through the second surgery this year with no complications . Luka will remain on joint food and supplements and possibly hydro for the rest of his life at a cost over $600 a month . So from time to time we may need to sell some merchandise because these costs far exceed my income . Thank you for giving luka a new life

Hydrotherapy

Just thought I would update

Luka is now having hydrotherapy to help strengthen his leg which will make his next operation manageable as he will have to walk on a newly healing leg while the next one heals .

He is still mostly crated apart from an hour or so around the house each day with couches and furniture blocked off to stop Him jumping

Fundraiser extension

14 October 2020

I have extended this fundraiser till the 14th January(the most it will allow me )

Due to the complications luka is currently experiencing post op . To date we have spent $7959.36 on one leg invoices all all displayed on Lukas Facebook page .

Luka may need to have his meniscus scooped and removed which will allow funds for this or the second leg and hydrotherapy . Thanks for everyone’s help to date we really appreciate it .

Possible infection

12 October 2020

Unfortunately luka had be taken back today he has a high fever and swelling in his stifle and is now on three legs .

The vet he seen today (not his Surgeon who was busy ) feels he may have a infection in his joint and an hip issue . Tomorrow we are to return for x rays under sedation and a joint tap for culture . Before any antibiotics can be given to treat it this is the issue . Six weeks of greatness to a dog that now can not walk on four legs 😭

5 weeks post op

LUKA UPDATE

Hi guys today Luka had his 5 week post op check up . Wasn’t sure how this would pan out because he’s had a few rough days as of lately and a cat teasing him outside on potty breaks 😬but today was a good day.

He checked for draw etc and Luka has no draw and his knee is stable as . Which means the suture is still in place and hasn’t moved or stretched any . He was graded on his limp today , which is done out of a rating of 6 .

6 being the worst . Luka has been graded as having a grade 1 limp which is fantastic given he’s only 5 weeks out of surgery . They could barely see any limp at all today . He’s also lost 2 kg which is prob just muscle mass . His leg has good flex . So for now we can start some massage which is great for improving blood flow still being crate rested of course . And in a week or so range of motion which is just moving his leg in Motion pretty much . He will return in 3 weeks at the 8 week mark where we will see pretty much as much healing as we are going to get and we can get then start hydrotherapy and a short walk around the block on leash of course . And work at building his muscle up and get that leg as strong as we can before we go in and do knee 2. We got some more joint supplements today and also a KC vaccination .

Great news all round I am very amazed as it’s Been super hard to control on a leash with built energy .

Recovery leg one

16 September 2020

I have my cone off now , I am still on potty breaks only for 8 weeks then we will do some rehab hydrotherapy in the big city a little travelling involved but I’ll try be good And get stronger so then we can do my other leg .

Mummy’s trying to do her best to handle me on a leash but it’s hard because I have so much energy I would love to burn off being crated all day . But it’s very important so my surgery doesn’t fail .

Surgery went well

Lukas first surgery went well he has no osteoarthritis present and his meniscus is fine . Images attached are the totals I paid today as discussed meds and x rays are not included in the $2500/$3500 quoted per leg which is just for surgery

Luka update

27 August 2020

Luka update - am happy to report he is out of surgery . They compared legs first and decided the right needed it more than the left first .

When they opened him up the ligament was almost fully torn just hanging .

His meniscus in intact and perfect

He had no osteoarthritis which is the best thing you could ask for . He is currently on IV fluids having his leg iced . He will come home tomorrow after a discharge appointment at 1115am . From here luka is on strict cage rest for 6-8 weeks only out for toilet breaks . The e collar will remain for two weeks . He is on Antirobe and noroclav as a precaution for infection control . And will be on medicam for pain and inflammation. He will remain on joint supplements and joint food all his life and in 3-4 mths we will go in and look at doing his second leg . Overall he thinks the procedure will work great in luka given he has no osteoarthritis and a young dog .
