Luke and Ben Sea Kayak Around New Zealand

So…

Luke and I are going to attempt to Sea kayak around New Zealand starting this November.

Why? “Well, you know it’s something to do.” Has been the go to response to the first few inquiries. But the real answer is that both Luke and I fancy ourselves as a little adventurous, and as a result have spent a fair amount of time discussing all sorts of tempting global adventures. But the fact of the matter is neither of us have been on such long and challenging expeditions, and so we don’t know how we’d go…??

So in an attempt to for once combine a little bit of sense with a whole bunch of enthusiasm. Sea kayaking around New Zealand was the adventure selected from the pile. The home turf having the advantage over the middle of some foreign continent in the event I start crying 3hrs in…

+ How cool is sea kayaking round the entirety of Aotearoa going to be!!!

That being the What? and the Why? Here’s the really special part….

HOW: The part that makes this expedition so unique is that we want to use this trip to set a precedent. To make expeditioning less about man vs. nature and instead to start a culture of giving back to the adventure… not later, not in hindsight, but in the process!!!

We are heading out to learn about the place we are from, to experience every inch of the coast and to get to know those who live there. And for every incredible experience this offers us we want to give back just as much! Using this trip together with our own skills and experience as a platform to actively engage in and promote positive community/environmental action and by committing our rest days to help the people and places we come across on our way.

But this first step of the journey to becoming modern day helpful-adventurers needs YOUR help!

With any sort of luck someone will lend us some sea kayaks. But chances are there’s still a bunch of other things we’ll discover we need as we embark on planning this Monty mish.

Hence the appeal. And the way I see it we’re looking for four things:

1.Spare change sponsors. Willing to donate the coins that had been down the back of the couch so long that you’d stopped thinking of it as your money anyway.

2.Any useful but rarely used gear people might have floating round that we could borrow (less to buy =) e.g. that full set of expedition gear in the garage that you went out and brought after watching a really cool kayaking video, despite the fact that you still haven’t learnt to kayak six years later… We will happily teach you in return =)

3.Friends! Stop me driving Luke crazy with months on end with just my company… Get in touch about tagging along in some sort of sea going craft for whichever sections of coast take your fancy.

4.How can we help? Tell us where you live and how we can be of service to yourself, some deserving person you know, or your area and we’ll stop by and pitch in on our way past.

So again, if there’s some way you think you (or even some mate of yours - if you share it) can help out with any of the above that would be legen- dary!!
