Luke has been here before. He faced cancer, fought it with everything he had, and came out the other side. His boys were there last time, watching their dad fight. His incredible wife was there every step of the way.

Now cancer is back. And Luke is doing what he does, facing it head on.

If you need to know the kind of man Luke is, consider this: he just threw his 40th and 300 people showed up. That's not luck. That's a life well lived and a community that loves him back hard.

He has two boys, aged 11 and 8, who need their dad around. And a wife who deserves to have her husband home and well.

The treatment

Luke's oncologist has prescribed two drugs. FOLFIRI is funded and covered. Bevacizumab is not funded by Pharmac, and it significantly increases his chances of survival. The full six-month course costs around $40,000.

The treatment plan is still curative. There is real hope here. But getting Luke through all 12 rounds takes a village.

Luke and I became friends when our boys started school together in 2022. They've been teammates on the rugby field ever since. Luke and Cush are those people who show up for everyone. This is us showing up for them.

Use of funds

Every dollar raised goes toward Bevacizumab, the unfunded drug that significantly increases Luke's chances of survival. If we don't reach the full goal, every cent raised still goes directly toward his treatment and reducing the financial pressure on his family.

On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
