Can you help? LUNA needs Spinal Surgery URGENTLY

Luna, the gorgeous Clumber Spaniel needs financial support to get an urgent Spinal surgery - can you please help?

Northland

My name is Luna (my nick name is "Big Girl"). I am a Clumber Spaniel and only four years old.

My human caregiver (Waimarie Bruce) adopted me when I was a pup to give me a life long loving home. She's spayed me, got me an eye operation for my entropion and ectropion issue when I was young too. She walks me, feeds me, washes, grooms me, flea tick and worms me, tickles me, takes me to see the Kauri Vet doctors when I need too, and plays tracking with me (I have the best tracking nose). She laughs at me, takes too many photos and videos of me and does her upmost best to keep me - even though she's had a tough year herself.

Yesterday (Monday 28th November 2016), I wasn't feeling well. I wouldn't get off my bed. I could still eat and drink, but my back was sore and legs wouldn't move to well. My human was scared and so she phoned the awesome Doctors at Kauri Vets, Whangarei. My human rushed me there - we were both afraid.

The Doctor said I have a "partial prolapsed disc" in my spine, and gave me some medication that my human had to give me with food (yay!), every day for six days, and to keep an eye on me if I got better or worse overnight.

I got worse - overnight.

This morning (Tuesday 29th November 2016), my back legs wouldn't move at all and I was peeing and pooing on myself. I could still eat and drink and I could still see the chickens at the neighbours that I always want to chase and catch BUT my back legs wouldn't work.

My human rushed me to the Doctors at Kauri Vet again. They said it's worse (duh!) and that I needed to see a special doctor in Kerikeri, Northland (an hour away) who can give his opinion. Without hesitation my human got me in the car and off we went. My human was saying to me "we will be ok Luna, we will find out what we have to do next, I love you Big girl".

We got to Kerikeri to see the special doctor, he said I needed emergency surgery but it'll cost at least $5 - 6,000. While I was sitting on the table being checked, I saw my human crying, I looked up at her and licked her face as many times as I could to tell her it will be alright. I knew she didn't have the money to do such a surgery, and her heart was sinking thinking it was her fault, but it's not her fault. She loves me, I love her, it's just bad luck that this happened.

My human asked those who could maybe lend the money for the operation, but alas to no avail. So in the end I nudged her elbow and she knew I meant for us to go home and spend as much time together as we can before I would see the awesome Kauri Vet Doctors again but this time ... for my last time.

My human took me home, started praying over me, with tears rolling down her eyes and feeling hopeless, then I thought, why not try 'Givealitte' and ask some animal lovers for help?

So, here we are, asking for help.

I don't have much time. The specialist said I need this surgery urgently in the next day or so (by at least Thursday 1st December 2016) before all my nerves and sensation in my back goes forever - then, it will be hopeless.

I know it's a lot to ask, it is a lot, I know my human has only a little to give, but she needs more.

My human donates to 'Givealittle' causes when she can, as she can, and she promotes animal welfare.

She loves doggies, and she loves and adores me. I am her companion, one that never judges her, unconditionally loves her and gives her cheer everyday.

I'm looking out for my humans welfare. She wants me and she really needs me.

Note: All monies will go to the 'Charles Barnard, Vet Specialist' in Kerikeri, Northland. With no money to get this surgery, he can't operate on me, so my human needs help to keep me.

Can you help?

Written with love (and help from my human).

Luna is my loving doggie companion, far too young to be euthinised, bold and beautiful to not be given every chance to live her life out with me.

I am not ashamed to ask for help for her, she deserves every chance possible to live and to live life abundantly <3

Hello again!

With a few weeks gone by since my last update, you'd be pleased to know that my human was able to find a Hydrotherapy Clinic that I am now regularly attending. Although she meant well with getting me an outside home paddle pool and used the warmth given by the natural sun light for us to paddle in, it wasn't quite warm enough for my muscles to relax, so we've joined the Hydro Clinic where they're now supporting us to help restore feeling to my back legs.

Miss Lou and Miss Ashleigh work with me two to three times a week, depending on how tired I am - if I'm too exhausted they don't over-do it and get me to skip a session, but I want to go back all the time so they give me more duck treats :-)

My back left leg is better, I'm using it more to push myself when I'm helped along to walk, and when I'm encouraged to stand on my two paws I don't have much muscle to keep me up but it's getting built up again slowly. My back right leg is still asleep but I feel tingling and I'm correcting it a little more when I'm trying to stand up straight. My tail likes to wag and that always makes my human happy.

I'm losing weight now to help me with my therapy (booOO!!!) I miss all my Greenie bones that my human used to give me a lot. I know it's all to help me get up and walking again and back in shape though, but I can't wait to get them again.

Thanks again for all the financial donors and in particular more-so recently those who bought the Trademe auctions. To Michelle and the Currie family who kindly donated another $600.00 dollars on top of auctions that they won, my human and I thank you, and everything goes toward the resources and therapy to help me with my recovery.

My next appointment with the vet is this week on Tuesday. Hopefully she will give me more treats and will be happy with the progress. I'll update you on how that goes this week.

With love,

Luna
