Youth Music Mentoring Programme - promoting Connection, Collaboration, Confidence and Courage in our youth through the power of music!
Helensville, Auckland
“Music gave me confidence I never knew I had.” – Bella, 16
Magnus Octopus offers a music mentoring program for youth aged 16 -20 that utilises musical expression and creativity as a pathway to building resilience, exploring identity, building social connection and supporting mental wellbeing.
Our Youth Programme, based in Rodney Auckland and headed up by Jimmy Christmas (The D4/ Luger Boa), empowers young musicians through workshops, mentoring, songwriting, and performance experiences.
Engaging with music and musical expression has repeatedly been shown to foster positive outcomes around confidence, identity, voice, social interactions, emotional self-expression, self-esteem, motivation, resilience, pride and self-worth!
Thanks to incredible support from partners like Auckland Council, we have venues secured for our workshops. Funding from Rodney Youth Project allowed for purchase of equipment so young people can simply show up and play— no need for families to outlay expensive costs.
• We want to reach EVEN MORE youth across our community
• We need funds to invest in mentors who inspire and guide, and hard costs to run the programmes
• We want to keep our workshops accessible and affordable for all youth, regardless of circumstances
What it costs to make it happen:
$150 covers one young person’s place in our 2-day workshop.
$300 covers one young person’s place in our 8-week term programme.
ANY donation BIG or small can help sponsor a young persons place in the programme!
Your donation, big or small, amplifies young voices and shapes young futures. Together, we can give more young people the chance to discover who they are, build friendships, and share their music with the world.
