Bring the Calliope Sea Scout "SHIP" back to her glory days.
Devonport, Auckland
The Calliope Sea Scouts operate out of, and maintain the hall on the Devonport foreshore, affectionately known as the "SHIP". The "SHIP" was built circa 1903 and has been in constant use by the Calliope Sea Scouts since 1926. Due to its location it is subject to the extremes of weather and the marine environment, the "SHIP" is showing her age and is currently in a degraded state. In recent years the group has made huge efforts to save the "SHIP" including re-roofing, future proofing water access and providing heating and lighting upgrades.
Our purpose is to provide a safe, secure and sanitary building for the Calliope Sea Scouts, wider scout movement, local community groups and others to enjoy in a historically significant local landmark.
Calliope Sea Scouts is a group within the Scout Association of NZ, we provide a challenging and interactive learning environment for youth members of our community, aged from 5yrs to 99yrs. We support youth leadership, maritime education and water safety.
We are fundraising to completely refurbish the exterior of the "SHIP" including weatherboards, windows, doors, joinery and fittings, a full re-paint will also be undertaken.
