Calliope Sea Scouts hall requires a new roof and major boat ramp repairs to continue offering scouting adventures to peninsula youth.
Hauraki, Auckland
Calliope Sea Scouts, the oldest Sea Scout group in New Zealand, operate from the "SHIP" (meeting hall) located on the waterfront in Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. The SHIP was constructed in the very early 1900's and being on the beach, requires constant maintenance.
The boat ramp (used to launch our safety boats and sailing craft) has succumbed to the environment and requires major repairs amounting to approx 25 - 30K.
Our roof is also leaking (affecting hall hire fundraising) and needs complete replacement of an asbestos roof amounting to approx 65 - 75K.
New roof and boat ramp repairs
Closure of Roof and Ramp Givealittle page 25 October 2023
Hello to you all, Thanks so much to you all for your support of Calliope Sea Scouts. You have done it. The Roof is brand new, the lower section of the Ramp is now concrete (and looking fantastic) the remaining wood ramp will be in place soon and we are back in business.
The Scouts, Cubs and even the Keas are keen on getting out there again with ease of access to the water. (just need the water to flush out a bit yet)
We are now going to head into the next phase of restoring the 'SHIP' look out for the givealittle page - Calliope SHIP - Windows and Walls. That's right, the next phase is restoring the external fabric, the Windows and Walls, removing rot, restoring the timber and repainting.
Here is the ramp.
Thank you very much
