Supporting our mum Debby after her Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis, as we help cover care, equipment, and time to make meaningful memories.
Auckland
Our mum, Debby, was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
MND is a rare, progressive, and fatal condition that damages motor neurones in the brain, causing muscles to waste away and leading to loss of mobility, speech, swallowing, and eventually breathing. The average life expectancy is 2-5 years.
She first started showing symptoms a year ago.
Our mum can no longer walk without a leg brace and crutches, and she is beginning to lose control in her arm and hand. Everyday things like going up and down stairs, washing dishes, and getting dressed have become difficult.
About our mum
She is an incredible and talented person, creative, kind, and full of love. Art is a huge part of who she is, and the thought that one day she may not be able to paint anymore is heartbreaking. She always stands up for others, and is endlessly generous with her time and energy. She loves to learn, is always curious, and is someone you can always rely on.
As it progresses, she will need increasing support, including mobility aids, home modifications, ongoing care, and help getting to and from medical appointments.
Funds raised will help cover the cost of care, equipment, and daily support, as well as giving our mum the opportunity to create meaningful memories while she still can.
If you are able to donate, any amount, no matter how small, would mean so much to us. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this page would also make a huge difference.
Thank you for supporting our mum 🤍
I am Debby's youngest daughter, organising this fundraiser to support her and our family. Debby is a mother of two daughters, and a grandmother of two.
