Malika’s Leukaemia journey 🩷

  • Update 🎀

      12 July 2025

Gosh an update is well overdue 🙈

Last week we had Malika and Ange home in Wellington for a few days before they flew up to Auckland to head to Starship children’s hospital where they will be for the next 3-4 months.

Malika had a fun and busy few days before her admission on Sunday night, and started another round of chemo on Monday. She will be having her bone marrow transplant on the 16th of July so please keep our beautiful girl in your prayers 🩷

    Kia ora ✨

We have made the decision to raise the goal slightly for Malika and her whānau as there has been quite a few extra costs during her treatment. One they’re being faced with at the moment is Malika’s skin reacting to certain materials due to her skin being so sensitive!

    Ngā mihi x

    Kia ora everyone!

We have some amazing news to share with you all - Malika has had no cancer cells present since the 14th April 🙏🏼 YOU GO GAL 🩷🩷

Malika’s pain specialists are super happy with how she’s doing, and have decreased one of her pain meds! She no longer has a mouthful of sores which is amazing news!

Yesterday Malika was moved from the high dependency unit back to CHOC which she is very happy about! Her room is much nicer, with the sun hitting her in bed 🥰 She is looking forward to the therapy dogs visiting her again when she’s no longer neutropenic 🩷

Please keep sending healing vibes, oh and sleepy vibes too cause gal won’t sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

    Kia ora!

Last night Malika finished her first 10 day cycle of Chemo through her line, she is now on a much deserved 4-5 week break but will soon be starting oral chemo. She’s having a really hard time with constant temperatures, and a very sore ulcerated mouth which has resulted in her being hooked up to a TPN (which is a method of feeding that delivers nutrients directly into the bloodstream through an IV line)

Today Malika is starting a new targeted therapy medication that blocks signals helping leukemia cells grow

Malika has the therapy dogs come around to visit her and she loves that, her Māmā’s probably never seen her bounce out of bed so quickly 😂

Please send all your love, strength and healing vibes to Malika and her whānau 🩷

    Kia ora everyone!

We just want to say thank you for everyone’s generous tautoko 🥺🫶🏼

    UPDATE:

Malika had her first round of chemo yesterday, she was feeling yucky afterwards which was very hard for her Māmā to watch and listen to. She perked back up last night and has made a friend who’s her neighbour on her ward and is the same age as her 🥰

Today we received some good news, and some bad news.

The good news is that the cancer cell count has reduced already 🙏🏼

The bad news is that Malika needs a bone marrow transplant, and will need to go to Starship Hospital in Auckland for this 🥺

But - We know she can do it! Please send our girl alllll the positive vibes 🩷✨
