Collecting, sorting, shipping , delivering many boxes of books etc to enhance the reading of the children of the Samoan island of Manono .
Waikato
I’ve been privileged to visit the Samoan island of Manono for 15 years during which time I have been supporting the two schools on the Island ( Faleu & Salua) by providing them with books to encourage the kids reading. Getting the boxes here from NZ is no small task. First we collect donated items then we pack them, take them to Auckland for shipping in a container, meet the ship when it arrives in Samoa then travel by road for an hour to the west of the shipping centre then we put them in a small boat to transport them to the little island of Manono. Once back on the island we sort the boxes and distribute them again by boat to the two little schools.
Why do I do it ? In the 6 months I spend on Manono each year I have come to treasure the lifestyle of these people. Kindness, friendship, spirituality and heaps of happiness expressed in constant laughter.
The simple answer to the question is , I want to say “THANK YOU “ and what better way than helping the children with their reading. After all as I have said many times before “ the child who learns to read becomes the adult who thinks”
Thanks to all of you in advance who share my views and kindly donate to this cause, enhancing the lives of our Pacific brothers and sisters. Fa’afetai.
I have been visiting this island for 15 years and found the children love reading. A way of contributing to their education is to continually supply them with books, donated in NZ , so that “ the child who learns to read becomes the adult who thinks”.

Kindness to Manono Kids 9 March 2020
The “Child who reads “ quote was all over Facebook for a couple of weeks. I’ve been using it for quite a few years. There have been many kind donations towards the freight costs but with a generous addition of books and clothes recently means we are going to need more room in the shipping container.
