Our daughter found this tiny orphaned kitten in a tree. Please help us to continue to help him :)
Canterbury
On Friday the 6th of March my daughter came running inside from playing on her swing to tell me that she thought she could hear a kitten meowing up a (rather large) tree in our yard. I didn't think a lot of it as this seemed impossible, but I humoured her by going to listen. Hearing nothing I told her it must have just been a bird that sounded like a kitten a wee bit.
The next evening she came running in saying the same thing, so I decided I would send my husband up the tree just to make sure. Just as he was about to give up and tell her it was definitely a bird she was hearing he saw movement and checked inside a little nook in the tree and found baby Manu. This poor baby had been way up in a tree, in the rain, for at least two days!
Manu was freezing cold, weak, covered in fleas (I have never seen anything like it, it was unbelievable to see hundreds and hundreds of fleas on such a tiny cat!) and weighed less than 200 grams. He has only just opened his eyes, and according to the vet he is only about two weeks old. With a lot of dedication on our part and determination on his he is now drinking formula from a bottle like a fiend, is strong and growing by the day (currently 222 grams as of March 10) and the vet says he is a little miracle, he has beaten the odds made it through the biggest hurdle and has a very good chance of survival!
Unfortunately Manu's arrival has coincided with a particularly money-poor time for us, and thus we would very much appreciate any donations towards his ongoing care. When he is old enough we will have him insured, but for now we could use a bit of help.
Donations will go towards vet checks, de-sexing, vaccinations, microchipping, flea and worm treatment, formula (and new teets for his bottles as he's a very chewy baby!), pet food.
As a note, in case you are wondering I have absolutely no idea how he wound up all alone up a tree lol. There was some discussion of him perhaps being stolen and put there by a bird, which seems unlikely. He is teeny tiny and most definitely didn't get himself there. The tree is a really bad climbing tree (our other three cats don't bother with it at all) so I'm doubtful that his mother put him there (and if she did, that begs the question why just him and where did she and her other babies go?)! He couldn't have been put in the tree, or thrown in the tree as it's super leafy and branchy. The most likely scenario we have managed to come up with is that our tree has grown a cat fruit. My eight year old thinks fairies are most likely responsible, especially since she has made multiple wishes on multiple occasions for a kitten lol. 'Tis a mystery.
I'm Manu's adoptive mum, feeding and toileting him at ungodly hours and doing everything (including type this) one handed to the sound of delicious purrs, lest he - heaven forbid - get put in his box so I can do everything two handed but to the sound of pitiful meows.
