Nationwide

Maranga by Spectrum Care is a group of young adults with intellectual disabilities in Wellington.

What’s our work? To help identify the potential in every one of the people we serve, then set out to help them realise it. We face challenges together and empower capabilities.

As a vocational service, from Monday to Friday, staff and youth members work collaboratively on goals to empower the disability community. Through a range of activities and workshops, Maranga gives people the opportunity to learn new skills and develop passions with the hope of finding employment and independence and new skills to take into the world.

Some of these workshops and classes range from Employment Workshops, Radio and Podcasting sessions, Hospitality skills and Multimedia. One of our proudest achievements is creating 'Made by Maranga', a micro-business enterprise that helps individuals harness their skills and create products to sell, helping them to generate income and become self-employed.

As part of this program, Maranga operates a Multimedia class every Thursday, teaching and learning skills like photography, videography, professional editing, documentary making and content creation.

As part of an exposure project, Maranga is currently working on a range of promotional videos to help our individuals connect with the vibrant Wellington community. This series of videos aims to challenge social perspectives of intellectual disability and empower the community.

As part of our learning, we want to use professional video equipment to create this series and create more in the future. However, due to lack of funding, and numerous declined funding applications, we are now seeking outside funding from our wonderful New Zealand Whanau - that's you!

Being able to buy and use professional video and photo equipment we will be able to give people skills to find a passion and career within the media industry, whilst being able to professionally showcase the incredible work Maranga does.

We hope that this fundraiser allows us to create amazing content and media for the world to help see who we are’
