Help replace what was stolen from Matty
Lower Hutt, Wellington
New Zealand please help us.
Help me help our brother, he is special needs, living in Wellington, in a flat with two other special needs lads. They have jobs & go about their lives in the best way they can with the cards they have been dealt in life. They mean no harm to anyone.
Unfortunately, our brother has become friendly with some skater guys. They have been taking our brother to the ATM & emptying his bank account, taking thousands from him over a few months before the family found out what had been happening. He just wants friends, he just wants to be accepted.
Now that he won’t give these guys money anymore they have broken into his house, on numerous occasions, stealing phones, kicking in doors, stealing his playstation & so on. The police have been involved, many times. But there is nothing they can do.
We have put up security cameras on their flat. Last night they returned, masked. Knocking on the door, telling his flatmate that he has a courier delivery so he opens the door. This guy kicks in doors looking for things to steal. The boys are traumatized. The police are involved again, but what can they do? Where do we go from here? The boys are too scared to return home, the flat will probably disperse, where do they live now? Where is their safety? Their independence? Is this the country we now accept that we live in? These boys should be admired for what they have overcome in their lives & the independence they have. Now it’s all gone. Because of our own people.
He's my special needs brother
A new playstation, rental repairs and cash back to Matty that was stolen
THANK YOU 11 June 2023
Hi Everyone!
We as a family wanted to offer our most warmest of thank yous, for all the love, support, kind words, donations and community that we have received over the past few days. I never anticipated that posting this blurb on Facebook would've gained the traction and wide spread conversation that it has done, its been amazing.
The Police have been incredible since this last incident and are working well with us to ensure we come to the right outcome.
The Give-a-Little page wasn't something I had thought about, but had so many asking to donate, so I set up. It has been more than we could have asked for and we thank you, Matty and the flatmates thank you. We will reimburse the flatmates for what was stolen from them, and from Matty, including the cash he had taken from him. We will now close off the donation page as our costs have been covered and we don't want to exploit the generosity of NZ. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️
Chris Bishop and his office have offered to assist working with us, MSD and WINZ to help find new accommodation, I will keep you posted on the progress of that.
I will report in again once we have the desired outcome and a new home for Matty.
Until then, rest assured that New Zealand is still a beautiful country, with amazing community, and that good always prevails. Make sure you look after each other out there, we all have a story to tell.
Thank you again,
Lisa
