Helping Dee to fund the house modifications and equipment he needs to become independent and get home from the hospital.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Many of you will be shocked to hear that Dee has lost all functionality and mobility from the armpits down, is in a wheelchair and currently living in hospital. No one knows quite what's happened, why it's happened, or how long it will last. It has been misdiagnosed twice and all treatments have had limited or no improvements. He has had a massive range of tests, including; brain, spine, and leg MRI's, spinal taps, blood tests, CT scans & x-rays, ruling out a wide range of illnesses. The result is that he is headding to the Burwood Spinal Unit to begin learning how to live independently again.
It’s going to be a long slow rehab process finding Dee’s new baseline, putting significant emotional and financial pressure on the family. To get Dee home again he will need new bathroom facilities, ramps, and mobility equipment. Currently Dee is on ‘Medical Leave Without Pay’ and does not qualify for ACC support.
Lots of people have asked how they can help, and people have asked us to set up a Give-a-little-page.
Please don’t feel obligated to contribute; you all know how Dee hates attention and sympathy.
If there are other ways you want to help, please contact Priscilla to coordinate; 021 174 8066

Wow... thank you!! 17 December 2021
Hey everyone,
We just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU!
We are seriously overwhelmed with the crazy outpouring of love on our family, especially at this time of year! We have been so incredibly blessed 🙏
Update on Dee:
FND diagnosis retracted after a huge lesion was found on his spine, running from nipple line to base of spine. They missed it because it was so big and normally look for small abnormalities. He has responded extremely well to the high dose steroid treatment and regained some movement in one leg and torso!! (We havent seen this for about 2 weeks now!) Still waiting for next steps, but they have said they will send him to Burwood spinal unit (although, honestly, you can't really believe anything until it is actually happening, because he was supposed to go there last week 😆)
