Mauaoathon 4 Mikaere Sydney, all day challenge climbing Mauao to raise funds for him and his whānau while he recovers in Waikato Hospital.

Mount Maunganui, Tauranga

This is to tautoko Mikaere Taingahue who was elected the first ever Māori Ward Councillor for Tauranga Moana. Unfortunately, he feel very ill before he could take on this amazing opportunity. He has been in Waikato Hospital now for approx 6 months. This is to help support his whānau and Mikaere during this time in any way we can.

Mikaere is a very popular young man who gave so much of time to the Moana. This is our chance to show our support.

3 years ago we did a similar Kaupapa for the family of Innocence Henry who was in starship hospital.

This kaupapa will involve 12 hours of climbing Mauao on 14 December 2024. For some it will be the entire time and for others it may be once or for our Kaumatua around. It’s about well-being it’s about kotahitanga and it’s a way we can show our aroha for Mikaere and his whānau.

Everyone is welcome to participate in any way you feel, we will have a marquee set up as a base for rest and nourishment.

All funds raised will go to the whanau to do with it as they please.
