The old Mt Wellington quarry in Auckland has a section of rock on public land that has now been developed into the Maungarei Springs crag.

What is the money going towards?
We have put 60 odd bolts into 11 new climbs at the Maungarei Springs crag. We're hoping you can cover some of that cost, because as you may or may not know, bolting can be pretty expensive for a single person or two. The first $400 will be used to cover the cost of existing bolts. Any funds raised past $400 will be spent on buying more bolts and anyone who would like to bolt climbs here can use these bolts.
Who are we?
We are just a couple of passionate climbers who saw some rock in Auckland and thought we might be able to climb it. Turns out there are some quality lines, so we developed them. Our main man, Owen Lee, has spent many countless hours working on the crag, and Petrouchka Steiner-Grierson has spent lots of hours, too. Joshua Thoresen was also quite involved. We have cut tracks, killed gorse, pulled down loose rock, and put in lead bolts and anchors.
What do the contributors get back?
What do you get out of this? The satisfaction and pride of knowing that you contributed to the development of Auckland's second crag. Also more options for climbing in the city, because why go to the gym when you can do it for real, just around the corner?
Who is the target market?
Rock climbers of Auckland and the wider NZ. Also anyone else who wants to help some climbers out. We have put out a detailed guidebook of the crag, complete with colour photos, and we will continue to update this and make it freely available online for everyone.
