We are moving to the U.S. to adopt from U.S. foster care !
Wellington
Hi,
We are the McCall family and we are passionate about adoption. Our hearts are incredibly moved by the current situation in the U.S. where over 100,000 children are waiting for adoptive families. We are excited to share our plans to grow our family and later this year we plan to temporarily relocate from Wellington (NZ) to Brunswick (Georgia) for the adoption of siblings from U.S. foster care.
We have pursued NZ adoption and international adoption from NZ, but this doesn’t fit with our family for various reasons.
We are planning on adopting a sibling group between the ages of 4 and 11 because this is the demographic where there is the greatest need, and our thirteen year old son is excited to have younger brothers and sisters to care for and play with.
We plan to move to Brunswick because Rhema Community Church have supported us in the past, some of the leaders within the community are our good friends and mentors, and Rhema Community Church share our passion to care for children without family.
Our friends in Brunswick have been through the adoption process and are prepared to do whatever they can to assist us. They have introduced us to potential employers, an immigration attorney, a financial advisor, a real estate agent, an adoption agency etc.
This fundraiser is to cover the some of the adoption fees and relocation costs to get there. Our fundraising goal is $40k NZD ($26.7k USD). Please see below for a breakdown of some of the costs.
Airfares one-way - allow for $3k ($2k USD)
Adoption fees - $3.8k ($2.5k USD)
Immigration Visa - allow for $7.5k ($5k USD)
Immigration attorney- allow for $3k ($2k USD)
Vehicle - allow for $15k ($10k USD)
Contingency 10% - allow for $2k ($1.3k USD)
Furniture - allow for $3k ($1.3k USD)
Appliances - allow for $2k ($1.3k USD)
Furnishings - allow for $500 ($300 USD)
Bicycles - allow for $1k ($700 USD)
While this will be a huge move and change for our family, we are fueled by a passion and belief that every child deserves a family. We are excited and very willing to lay down our lives here in New Zealand to go and meet this need.
We would be deeply appreciative if you would partner with us.
Much Love,
Uriah, Mallory, Hassan, and Theo
A few common questions answered below:
Why not adopt from NZ?
We have pursued adoption from New Zealand, but the truth is that New Zealand is pushing away from domestic adoption and more towards long-term foster care. For a number of different reasons, this doesn’t fit with our family. There are currently over 400,000 children in U.S. foster care waiting to be adopted and there is one family in New Zealand who is very passionate about adoption. Therefore, we are going to put ourselves in a place that has a need that matches our passion and desire to grow our family.
Who are we adopting?
We are planning on adopting a sibling group between the ages of 4 and 11.
Why Brunswick?
Rhema Community Church. That’s it really. They’re amazing and have really come alongside of us to help get us there and begin the adoption process.
How can you help?
1. . Working Bee. Kiwi friends! We will be having a working bee and end of summer barbeque at our house March 21. The goal of this is to make our house ready to be rented out. We were planning on having a bit more time to finish a few projects that we’ve started. So if you’d like to come out and give a hand, more details here….https://www.facebook.com/events/175613846873350/
2. Prayerfully. For those of you who have been following the McCall family you may have realized that we switched continents in 2018 after a fairly drawn out and dramatic (traumatic) adoption. It was never our intention to be continent hopping again so quickly, but we believe this is something that God has asked us to lay down our lives for. We’d just ask that you keep all the little hearts and paperwork and visas in your prayers. We are excited to put ourselves in a position where only God can meet our needs. If you’d like to pray with us and get updates as we go along, shoot us a message and we’ll add you to the group.
3. Financially. Like I said. It wasn’t our intention to continue to continent hop. While the actual adoption should be around $2500, we are raising funds to help us relocate. Our intention is to be in the U.S. for a year and then move back to New Zealand, so we will be storing (not selling) most of our belongings in NZ. We are aware that when one moves continents, a lot of unexpected expenses come up. Any money raised here will go towards adoption fees, relocation and furnishing our home, visas and plane tickets.
